This course is designed to teach all of the fundamental skills of navigation to allow people to safely hike in Ireland’s Mountains. MS1 provides you with an introduction to a range of essential basic skills for hill walking. It allows you to safely navigate, allowing you to get off the sometimes filled hiking trails, and enable you to “take the road less traveled”. We will teach you how to explore safely, and discover new paths around the Irish mountains. The course runs over two consecutive days, involving two walks and classroom time, where you will learn:- Map reading- Map setting- Compass use- Grid references- Measuring distances- Calculating times for journeys- Planning day trips up the mountains Mountain Skills 2:Our Mountain Skills 2 course builds upon what students learn in MS1 and takes place over two consecutive days. It is also an accredited course by Mountaineering Ireland, continuing to teach you how to navigate mountains in Ireland safely. Here you will learn how to navigate at night, and how to approach hill walking along steep or broken ground. Taking routes off marked hiking trails take careful planning. With completion of the Mountain Skills courses you are well equipped to tackle the many mountains of Ireland, especially Kerry and Wicklow.
